Control4 Home Automation System Demo of Smart Home TechnologyJan 05, 2012 control4.com Join us on a tour of a Control4 home automation system in McKinney, Texas. Control4 dealer Byron Baird of Diem Digital Interiors & homeowner Jeff Layn provide a home automation demo of Jeff's townhouse located on a golf resort called Craig Ranch. Jeff's smart home technology controls multiple zones of audio, multiple televisions with DVRs for every family member, fireplaces, ceiling fans, thermostats, & IP cameras. He started small and has been adding on to the system over time. What's great about this Dallas palace are the endless custom touches. When Jeff arrives home and opens the garage door, his home control system turns on the lights & the television turns on to his favorite channel (ESPN). Jeff also has a personalized microchip key chain that has his personal settings programmed into it. He waves it over the 'wand' behind the door which then brings up his personal settings of how he wants to live his life when he comes in the house.

But what's even dreamier about this fresh face is that not only do you get to customize the look and layout, you get to customize the technology too. Let's have a look. Without a doubt, this regal residence is a looker. It features a great room; the owner suite is in the back of the home so it faces the beautiful backyard, the pool. But this heavenly home isn't just a beauty... it's brainy too. It's loaded with Control4 smart home technology. With a simple press of a button, we can turn everything on in the house. The "Good Night" button will dim out selected lights for the evening. "Party Mode", preset levels that we have for the party. Now in the instance that the alarm goes off in the house, the system is designed to turn all of the lights on. We have three outside cameras and two indoor cameras. By simply clicking on the camera, we can see in a small view of we click on "Full Screen" to see a full view of the camera outside. We do have a simple one-button press to talk directly to the other intercom station. You can go into, select your days and select your temperature readings for those times. Okay, so if we wanted to put audio out by the pool, we can simply select the room. Here's a refreshing feature of Control4... it's easy to control anything from just about any screen, including these pool jets. Very cool! Smart ...

And speaking of celebrities, remember the 50's pop icon, Bobby Darin? Well, his Hollywood home got a modern makeover with Control4 including a home entertainment system that the late, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer would have loved. And we're getting a personal tour. This house was the former house of Bobby Darin. The owner now is a young hotel proprietor and he is sort of a guy who lives in New York as well as lives here in LA. He can be in New York before he gets on the plane and fire up the house, so when he gets here, everything is ready. He can turn on the spa and he can heat up the pool. He can turn on the lights, raise the shades and get prepared to come in and have a good weekend. We've worked on some amazing, cool homes but I think this is one of my favorites. It's got a full Control4 system. We've got HVAC, security, door locks, garage door, whole home audio, all of the televisions, DVRs, Blu-ray players as well as spa control and all of the lighting and an 8-zone audio system all under one control system. The front doors are on the automation system too so with the remote control, you can unlock the front door. The pool has an underwater speaker in it. So even amongst all these gadgets and gizmos, the retro style is still in full affect. Check out the sunken living room. Love it! It is pretty tricked out. It's got a lot of gadgets and a lot of things that are ...
